Chant book and chanting

The Mt. Baldy Zen Center chant book can be found here.

The sequence of chanting can be confusing since some of the chants are repeated and there are Ekos, (solo chants) that aren’t in the chant book. This is the sequence of chants:

  • Heart Sutra (page 15)
  • Dharani of Removing Disasters (page 17, top)
  • Honzon Eko (solo chant)
  • Dharani of the Compassionate One (page 17)
  • Temple Founder’s Eko (solo chant)
  • Dharani of the Compassionate One (page 17)
  • Lineage Eko (solo chant)
  • Dharani of the Compassionate One (page 17)
  • Teacher’s Eko (solo chant)
  • Dai Segaki (page 20)
  • Hungry Ghost Eko (solo chant)
  • Final instructions of Kozen Daito (page 22)
  • The Four Great Vows (page 24)

After the Four Great Vows there are three great bows.

Before teisho we chant The Dharani of the Compassionate one (page 17) and the Final Instructions of Kozen Daito (page 22). After teisho we chant the Four Great Vows (page 24).
